Game Plan Review

Game Plan Review

The two standards I chose in my Game Plan were,

1-b. engage students in exploring real world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.

2-a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.

The resources I will need for my first standard is student access to computers and the internet. From there I will have my students create Blogs and open a RSS feed for news sites that will carry current events that the students can discuss. I have already taken these steps and plan on monitoring and evaluating how this works with my students. My learning strategy will be student centered discussion and reflection with teacher input.

For my second standard, I will need access to numerous resources, computers, internet, Projectors, Software, and much more in order to reach all learners and re-do my projects and lesson to include technology. I am currently addressing this right now by slowly adding technology components. I will also need the support of my colleagues and other professionals to add insight and ideas to my new projects and assignments. Also, feedback and opinions of my student on what they liked or disliked so I can tweak things to make them better, more informative, and more fun. Learning strategies will vary greatly depending on what I decide to do in class on a assignment by assignment basis.

  1. Eric,
Your idea of having your students create a blog and then have them open an RSS feed for current news sites is a great idea. If you don't mind, I think I will borrow that idea from you.
Do you have computers in your room for your student to access or do you have to schedule time in a lab?

  2. Eric (Mr.P),
I really like your idea about using a Blog and opening a RSS feed to get to new current event sites. My students’ are required to read current healthcare events each week and I would like to implement this in my school, but unfortunately, our county has a block on letting students use Blog sites. I know a blog site would increase student interest for completing assignments and set new challenges,

I am currently waiting on an answer from my administration to see what we can do to have our technology department lift the block. Do you have any suggestions for this problem? Thanks, I really enjoyed the information in your post!

  3. Susan,

We do not have classroom computers but we do have some labs which if I book two weeks in advance can get on a semi consisten basis. Our school right now has 4 netbooks to see if we want to replace our standard computer labs with mobile netbook labs in the future.

  4. Deborah,

I really hope your administration sees the light like mine did. Last year Blogs and most sites were not open to students, but then we got a new technology supervisor who pushed the school board in the right direction to get our admin to listen to reason.
    Good Luck

I too am about to begin to use a blog with my class. I found the administration very open to the idea. A colleague and I have received permission for a blogging site that the students can use. I am looking forward to beginning the project with the students. The problem that I am going to face and wonder if you are too, is the lack of computers that are available. I am still working on that problem.
